MacKenzie practices law in the areas of land use, real property law, real estate transactions, environmental law and elections law. Mr. MacKenzie has been a member in good standing of the State Bar of California since November 1987. Mr. MacKenzie was a deputy district attorney for ten years, four years with the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office and Six years with the Butte County District Attorney’s Office, where he staffed the Butte County District Attorney’s Office Environmental Protection Unit. Mr. MacKenzie subsequently served as Chief Deputy County Counsel in the Butte County Counsel’s Office for ten years. Mr. MacKenzie has conducted 31 jury trials through to verdict.
While employed in the Butte County Counsel’s Office, Mr. MacKenzie advised at various times the Board of Supervisors, the Butte County Water Commission, the Butte County Planning Commission, the Butte County Land Conservation Act Committee, the Butte County Code Enforcement Advisory Committee and numerous Butte County departments. Mr. MacKenzie also assisted Butte County in establishing a comprehensive nuisance abatement program, including an abandoned vehicle abatement service authority, established an administrative hearing program for county code violations, and served as a special Butte County deputy district attorney in the areas of environmental protection and public nuisance abatement. Mr. MacKenzie has drafted many of the ordinances in the Butte County Code and also has worked in the areas of constitutional law, criminal procedure and water law. Mr. MacKenzie also has worked as a contract attorney for Butte County on various projects, including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) relicensing proceedings of three hydroelectric projects in the Feather River watershed (DWR’s Lake Oroville Facilities and PG&E’s Poe Powerhouse and De Sabla-Centerville Project), and in the areas of land use, real property and water law. Mr. MacKenzie has been practicing law for 24 years. Mr. MacKenzie is a graduate of the University of California, Hastings College of the Law and the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Mr. MacKenzie founded MacKenzie Land Law in June 2007.
